I’m a thinker. My mind is always running, constantly pondering or strategizing. Though I’m not complaining, it can make me weary and anxious at times. You see, I want my mind to stop running but find it nearly impossible.
Can anyone relate?
Well, yesterday I was feeling mentally overrun and undisciplined. I couldn’t keep my mind from chasing one thought after another. “Why can’t I just unload a dishwasher without trying to figure something out or pondering something deep?” I wondered. But then, I had this desire to turn on music. When “All the People Said Amen” by Matt Maher started playing, my mind stopped chasing, my spirit lifted, and my focus shifted. I was amazed at how I was no longer thinking…I was just singing. Suddenly, Psalm 117 (a Psalm the Lord had led me to read during a state of exasperation) made sense.
”Praise the LORD, all you nations. Praise Him, all you people of the earth. For He loves us with unfailing love; the LORD’s faithfulness endures forever.”
God’s remedy to our constant, at times anxious, and overwhelming thoughts? Sing! It’s simple, but it works.
Dumbfounded by music’s effectiveness, I had to share. “But, Lord, what’s a good way of saying what I learned today?” His answer was immediate—Music for the Mental.
He’s so good.
“And All the People Said Amen!”
